 Chaotic Good

Chaotic Good begins in an undisclosed New York City hotel room where Brit Manning, renowned reporter for the Manhattan Post, has been summoned to conduct what may be the most important interview of his life.  Seated across from him, somewhere in the darkness, is a man about whom very little was known.  Few had seen his face.  No one knew his name.  In fact, there were many who wondered if this man even existed.

He was known only as 'Mayhem', a name given him by the media following the pandemonium and havoc which he created throughout the years upon doling out his unique brand of vigilante justice.  His exploits were legendary, each involving some major act of destruction, larceny and sometimes, death.  But what set Mayhem apart, what made him different, was that in all cases, the victims in his exploits deserved everything they got.  In fact, many of them deserved even worse.

He targeted terrorists and sex offenders.  He exposed adulterers and scam artists.  But not just the nameless, faceless viruses in the community whose identities are not known until their crimes make the nightly news.  No, Mayhem prided himself on his ability to pull away the curtain of deception that so many of today's politicians, celebrities, law makers and other wrongfully deified mortals have chosen to hide behind. He destroyed not just physical structures, but reputations; reputations of those that had, up to that point, been revered and loved. Each feat was meticulously planned, each target carefully chosen.

For decades, Mayhem has captivated the American public through his dramatic and sensational exploits, which would quickly become the headline of the day.  He would appear from time to time just long enough to enact his vengeance, then vanish without a trace.  Months, sometimes years, would pass before he would be heard from again.  But the tremors of the earthquakes he fashioned would be felt long after he disappeared.  And now, as he nears what he calls his 'retirement', he sits silently, no more than six feet away from Brit Manning, smoking a cigarette, and ready to tell all; one exclusive interview in order to let the public know once and for all the true story of 'Mayhem'.

His origin begins during his days as a student at Ellsworth College, where the death of a hero, a bizarre cover-up and a shocking revelation transform a thoughtful and passionate young man into a mysterious vigilante that would prey on the less-than honorable for over three decades.  Upon learning the horrible truth about a man that he had respected and admired, Roger, as he was known before the birth of Mayhem, makes it his personal mission to destroy the reputation that his former mentor had worked so hard to build, not just within the college community, but all across America.  The adrenaline rush and feeling of utter satisfaction upon completing his task set the wheels in motion for what would become a life dedicated to righting wrongs and exposing the true character of the sinners who hide among us.

As he journeys through life, his vengeance will be felt by a United States Senator who is responsible for the disappearance of a young woman; terrorists disguised as everyday citizens; a teacher who belongs to a hate group; and a world-famous actor who has raped dozens of women.  With each great exploit his publicity increases and, given the immoral and often criminal behavior of his victims, his popularity and status as a modern-day cult hero grow with it.

But in telling his story to the world, Mayhem is doing more than just explaining his past.    At the same time he is setting the stage for his last and greatest spectacle; one that will cripple a government, topple an industry giant and forever change the lives of the people of an entire country.

Read what people are saying about Chaotic Good:

"I took Chaotic Good with me everywhere I went.  I am an avid reader, and I can't remember enjoying a book more."

"You must have a devious mind, or at least a very inventive imagination, to write all of these twists and schemes.  I enjoyed reading Chaotic Good.  I wish more people were so passionate about justice."

"A real page-turner.  The characters are so real; their flaws, their passion and conviction.  You can't help but fall in love with them.  Bravo!"

"I'll kill you if you tell anyone, but I actually had tears in my eyes at several points in the book." - from an email from my childhood friend, Chuck Kuba
